Overview

Black Rock Excavating performed the underground utility portion of a water main relocation project in Dayton, Tennessee, for the City of Dayton. The relocation was driven by a TDOT project to widen the intersection of State Route 30 and Summer City Road. Working as Underground Utility Subcontractor to MTC, Black Rock moved the existing water main approximately 30 feet further into the right-of-way and completed multiple tie-ins, over a project running from August 2024 through September 2024.

Water main relocation approximately 30 feet further into the right-of-way, with multiple tie-ins, ahead of a TDOT road-widening project.

The Challenge

The existing water main fed a school, so minimizing interruption to water service was critical throughout the relocation.

Our Solution

Black Rock performed the tie-ins after hours to avoid disrupting water service to the school, completing the relocation as Underground Utility Subcontractor to MTC from August through September 2024.

The Result

Black Rock completed the water main relocation ahead of the TDOT road-widening project at State Route 30 and Summer City Road, with water service to the school maintained throughout.
